Kay keen for Boomers’ stint

Illawarra's Nick Kay is buoyed by the chance to don a Boomers uniform again this week as the Hawks forward looks to solidfy his spot in the national team leading into the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Kay is the only Hawks player in the 12-man Australian squad which will play two Cup qualifiers in the next seven days.

Australia travel away to face Chinese Taipei on November 24 before return home to meet Japan in Adelaide on November 27.

It will be Kay’s second stint in the Boomers set-up after he made his debut in Australia’s Asia Cup triumph earlier this year.

"It will be a great opportunity,” Kay said.

"I am looking forward to getting over [to face Chinese Taipei] and competing again."

Kay is averaging 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the season. All seven Australian NBL clubs will have representation for the qualifiers.

Adelaide's Mitch Creek, Matt Hodgson and Nathan Sobey, Perth's Angus Brandt and Damian Martin, Sydney's Jason Cadee and Brad Newley and Taipans duo Cameron Gliddon and Mitch McCarron also feature in the team.

Melbourne's Chris Goulding and Brisbane's Daniel Kickert complete the squad.
