Dunedin class act of Summer League

The Dunedin Barbarians and Mako Sharks registered comfortable victories during Week Two of the SIT Zero Fees Southland Sharks Summer League at ILT Stadium Southland on Saturday.

In the early game, Connor Coll dominated at both ends of the floor to finish with a game-high 30 points to go with 12 rebounds in an eye-catching display.

Alex Wright was prominent throughout finishing with 11 points and 4 boards while Callum O'Connor lead Central's scorers with 15 points with Christian Alberton and Pierre Poyet both in double figures.

The Makos closed out the opening quarter strong with Ric Wang prominent early to take a 8-point lead into the first break which they held through the second to maintain that margin at the half.

That had stretched to 17 by three quarter time which put the game to bed early before a 14-0 Makos run saw them jump to a 27 point lead at one point in the final quarter before finishing 91-71.

Game two was even more one-sided. Dunedin built on their opening week short-handed win over the Makos with an emphatic 106-55 drubbing of the Tiger Sharks.

It was a wire to wire victory for Dunedin who were untroubled and did it by committee with five scorers in double figures led by Matt Bardsley’s 22 and 19 from Tai Porima-Flavell. Aaron Roydhouse registered a double-double with 16 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Jordan Murphy led the Tiger Sharks with 15 points with 11 for Morgan Waihirere and 10 apiece for Tom Cowie and Ethan Mitchell.
