Southland Sharks coach Rob Beveridge has described the return of Alex Pledger to the court as the highlight of his 30-plus year coaching career.
Pledger, a 70-game Tall Black, stepped back out on the basketball court on Thursday night just over three months since he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
The 34-year-old received a hefty ovation from the ILT Stadium Southland crowd, its largest of the season, when he was introduced six minutes into the National Basketball League game against the Canterbury Rams.
