Result: The Wheeler Motor Company Canterbury Rams (95) are defeated by SBS Bank Southland Sharks (104)

The Rams made a fast start behind the shot-making of Walter Brown (32 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) and the early energy of returning veteran Rene Rougeau, helping Canterbury to a 24-20 lead at quarter time. Southland responded in the second quarter through Caleb Asberry and Rylan Jones before the Rams stretched the margin again during the third behind key baskets from Brown and Tamenang Choh.


Canterbury would eventually build the lead to double digits, but the Sharks stormed back with a dominant fourth quarter to take control of the contest. Southland sealed the result on the back of Caleb Asberry’s all-round performance and clutch late-game scoring, while Rylan Jones and Keylan Boone hit key shots during a decisive late run.

The Canterbury Rams outlasted the Southland Sharks 45-42 in a dramatic triple overtime Rapid League clash at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, Christchurch.


The game was locked at 10-10 after the opening quarter before Canterbury edged ahead 19-18 at halftime. The Sharks responded in the third quarter, taking a 28-26 lead into the fourth before both sides traded blows late to force overtime.


Neither team could be separated after the first two overtime periods, with clutch plays from Dane Bertinshaw and Riley Snow helping Southland stay alive. But in the third overtime period, Mana Martin knocked down a huge three-pointer to give Canterbury the decisive advantage as the Rams held on for a memorable 45-42 win.
