Otago Nuggets dismantle a short-handed Southland Sharks.
Despite being without several key players, the Southland Sharks got off to a good start, with captain Sam Timmins showcasing a dominant paint package, totaling 14 points and 6 rebounds in the first quarter. The Otago Nuggets, behind newly signed Buay Tuach, would use a 34 point 2nd quarter to take the lead back. A low scoring 3rd quarter from the Sharks would solidify the lead for the Nuggets as the momentum continued to build. 30 points from Sam Timmins and 20 from import Rylan Jones wouldn't be enough to overcome the strong performance from the Nuggets as they steal a win away in Southland.

The Sharks came out quickly on the back of Tautoko Wynyard on the interior and the quick shooting of Quake Webster on the perimeter to hold a 7-4 lead at quarter time to give the crowd gathered at the Shark tank reason to hope for victory. But the Nuggets would storm back with 28 second half points as Toby Hunt, Oak Chisholm and Liam Boomer would all cross 9 points scored as one of last years Rapid All Star Five performers, Thyson Thata-Paese chipped in with 7 points all earned at the stripe. In the end the offensive efficiency of the Nuggets, who shot 66% from inside the arc, would prove to difficult to overcome as the road team took their first win of the Rapid season.
