The Southland Sharks pulled away through the middle stages of the contest to defeat the Hawke's Bay Hawks 117-93 at Rodney Green Arenas.
After a competitive opening quarter, the Sharks took control in the second and third periods behind a balanced offensive attack and a barrage of scoring from multiple contributors. Hawke's Bay continued to battle in the fourth quarter, with Daniel Grida knocking down consecutive triples and several Hawks players contributing late, but the Sharks' lead proved too large to overcome.

The Hawks set the tone early, leading 8-5 after the opening quarter before extending their advantage through the middle stages of the contest. Strong defensive pressure and rebounding allowed Hawke’s Bay to generate extra possessions, with Balin Casson, Kobe Costley, Isaac Allan and Maz Taylor all contributing to keep the Sharks at arm’s length.
Southland continued to battle throughout the second half, with Dane Bertinshaw, Quake Webster, Tautoko Wynyard and William Leger helping cut the deficit on several occasions.
