The SIT Zero Fees Southland Sharks have added another crucial piece to its 2020 roster, resigning Dom Kelman-Poto for the upcoming Sal’s National Basketball League season.
Kelman-Poto was a strong contributor in his first Sharks’ season this year, having joined the southern side from the now defunct Supercity Rangers, averaging almost 13 points on 64% shooting from the field, to go with over 8 rebounds per game.
Those sorts of numbers made resigning the man voted 2019 Sal’s NBL Fan Favourite by public vote a no-brainer, according to Sharks’ Head Coach Rob Beveridge.
“I am really excited to have Dom back in the ranks for next season. I’ve spoken to several people about him and have received nothing but positive feedback about him as a person and also about his potential to continue to develop into a very good player.”
“I am looking forward to having the opportunity of helping Dom to become an even better player next season,” Beveridge said.
Likewise, for Kelman-Poto, returning south was a straight-forward decision.
“Bevo reached out and I had a good couple of chats with him, so it was an easy call to make. My family and I feel honoured and privileged to be asked back to the Sharks.
"I’ve heard from so many people about what a great coach he (Beveridge) is and I wanted to hear from him myself. From our very first conversation he ticked all the boxes. It made me feel wanted and that he’s going to push me in the right direction for my game.”
“I just want to get out on court and give 100 percent and do whatever I can to help out the team. It will be the same old me just in better shape.”
Kelman-Poto joins Jarrad Weeks as signings for 2020 with further announcements expected from the Club over coming days.
The 2020 Sal’s NBL tips off on 9 April with the Sharks’ first home game at ILT Stadium Southland on Friday 24th April against the Manawatu Jets.
